Modal comes from beech tree pulp, which is what gives it that soft, silky drape. That same fineness means it responds better to gentle care than a rough wash cycle.
Washing
Hand wash in cool or lukewarm water with a mild detergent, or machine wash on the gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents, they break down the fibers faster than normal wear does.
Drying
Lay the hijab flat on a clean towel, away from direct sunlight. Hanging a wet modal hijab lets gravity stretch it out of shape over time, and direct sun fades color faster, especially on deeper shades.
What to Avoid
- Hot water (weakens the fibers and can cause shrinkage over repeated washes)
- The dryer (heat and tumbling cause pilling)
- Fabric softener (coats the fibers and dulls the natural softness)
Wrinkles
Modal wrinkles lightly and releases those wrinkles easily. A quick handheld steamer, or just hanging it in the bathroom while you shower, usually does the job. If you need to iron, use the lowest heat setting.
How Often to Wash
For everyday wear, every 2-3 wears is enough. If you've been outdoors all day or worn it during a workout, wash it after that single wear.
