Jersey Hijab Care 101: Wash, Dry, and Store Without Losing Stretch

Jersey is a knit fabric, the same kind used in a soft t-shirt, which is exactly why it's so low-maintenance and why it needs a slightly different care routine than woven fabrics.

Washing

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle inside a mesh delicates bag, or hand wash. Both work well. Because it's a stretch knit, avoid twisting or wringing it, gently press out excess water instead.

Drying

Dry flat whenever possible. Hanging a wet jersey hijab lets it stretch longer under its own weight over time, which changes how it wraps. Lay it on a towel and gently reshape it to its original size while damp.

The One Rule That Matters Most

Skip the dryer. Heat and tumbling are the number one cause of pilling and shrinkage in jersey fabric. If you're in a rush, a low, no-heat air-only setting is the only safe exception.

Wrinkles

Jersey rarely wrinkles thanks to its knit structure. If it does, a quick steam or a warm (not hot) iron smooths it right out.

Storage

Fold rather than hang, hanging can pull the fabric out of shape over weeks of storage. Rolling also works well and helps prevent crease lines.
